The journey takes 45 minutes including loading and unloading which is really quite efficient. You do need to arrive 30 minutes ahead of time. The crossing was smooth and the late afternoon light on the mainland was magical. The ferry itself has a bar, café, shop and allows dogs so has everything you need for a happy transit. In the winter the ferry runs about 5 times a day and we took the 4pm crossing. It costs about £26 each way dependent on your vehicle and number of passengers. The ferry is larger than expected and holds up to 70 cars and around 900 passengers.

This particular photo shows Oban as we left the port. The amphitheatre at the top of the hill is McCraig's tower. Started in 1897 and completed in 1902. As you can see John McCraig admired the Coliseum in Rome. He built this as a monument to his family and to provide work for local stonemasons. It is 200m in diameter and has 94 arches in two tiers. It was designed to be more elaborate 2A6C6852-1-22A6C6852-1-2 but when McCraig died in 1902 construction was stopped with just the outer walls completed.

Isle of Mull, Scotland http://timphillipsphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/2/isle-of-mull-scotland On Saturday 13th February we are heading up to the Isle of Mull for a family holiday. Mull is a sparsely populated island on the west coast of Scotland, home to White Tailed Sea Eagles, Golden eagles, Otters, Red Deer and many other iconic Scottish species. We are staying in a cottage on the shores of Loch Na Keal. Some clear nights and the Northern Lights would be very welcome, but that is in the hands of the gods. Please come back and check my posts during the week.
